In this Fast Mode expert opinion piece, Xiid President and CEO Steve Visconti examines the security gap created by the telco industry's AI-embedding phase, where AI is layered onto existing networks without rethinking the underlying exposure. Perimeter-based controls add complexity on top of an attack surface that remains reachable, leaving AI training pipelines, model registries, and autonomous agents vulnerable to targeting. Visconti argues that the only viable path forward is deterministic security: closing all inbound ports; binding access to identity and process rather than IP space; and wrapping AI workloads in outbound-only tunnels that make them non-addressable by design, without requiring a rip-and-replace of existing infrastructure.
